6.1-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia

(MENAFN) A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off the west coast of Indonesia’s Northern Sumatra province early Tuesday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences reported.

The quake occurred at 0456 GMT at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) offshore west of Sumatra island, located along the seismically active Pacific “Ring of Fire.”

Authorities reported no immediate casualties or damage.
