Speaking at an air base in Jakarta, Prabowo said Indonesia’s defense policy is driven by the need to protect national sovereignty amid what he described as an increasingly uncertain global security environment.
“We have no other interest than to safeguard our own territory. We see the world's geopolitical conditions as full of uncertainty and we know that defense is a primary requirement for stability,” he said.
He stressed that the military buildup is intended solely for defensive purposes and deterrence, not aggression toward other nations.
“In the future, we will continue to build our strength. We want to secure our airspace, seas, and of course, our land,” he added.
According to reports, the Indonesian Defense Ministry has ordered 42 Rafale fighter jets from France’s Dassault Aviation, with the latest procurement phase activating the final tranche of 18 aircraft under the contract.
